What is OralAdvance™?
OralAdvance™ is a quantitative cytology test
designed to help in early detection of oral cancer by
detecting gross nuclear DNA abnormalities in oral
epithelia cells. Using a soft brush to collect a sample
from a suspicious oral lesion, dentists will receive
results that will help them in planning next step for
clinical investigation.
Why use OralAdvance™?
OralAdvance™ is non-invasive, quick, virtually
painless, and easily conducted by a dentist.
OralAdvance™ can be done even when there is only
a slight suspicion that a lesion may be cancerous.
Results indicate whether or not more action is
immediately needed.
What is nuclear DNA ?
Nuclear Deoxyribonuclear acid (nDNA) is DNA content
within a nucleus of each human cell. In most cases it
encodes most of the genome and is inhered from both
parents.
Why not just use new visualization devices to
determine whether a biopsy is needed?
The most common visualization devices using light to help
see the presence of abnormal tissue. Abnormal tissue
is not necessarily cancerous,. OralAdvance™ is a
complementary technology that can be used with any
visualization devices to obtain more accurate results
for the patient.
How much is OralAdvance™?
The OralAdvance™ test cost $98 CDN which covers
the laboratory analysis and process fee and includes a
free kit to obtain and mail in the specimen. The test
kits are supplied free upon request and the testing fee
will be billed when specimen is received at the
Perceptronix Vancouver Laboratory for analysis.
How do I obtain OralAdvance™ kits to use in
my practice?
OralAdvance™ kits can be obtained by dentists
upon ordering from Perceptronix Medical Inc. (
1.888.629.8779 or the
online order form).
Based on clinical judgment, in the event that the report
suggests that there is no DNA abnormality and
pre-malignant potential is unlikely, continuing monitoring
and looking for other causes is recommended.
