Oral Cancer Detection |
In 84% of cases, a dentist can detect signs of Oral Cancer during a comprehensive oral examination (Clinical Practice Guidelines, 2008).
Most oral cancers are diagnosed in their later stages. In at least 50% of these cases, the cancer has already spread to other areas of the body. Unfortunately, only 36% of all oral cancers are currently detected in their early stages.
-
When oral cancer is detected in its later stages, the five-year survival rate is approximately 50%
-
When oral cancer is detected in its early stage, the five-year survival rate is 80% or higher
Technologies such as OralAdvance™, combined with regular oral examinations, greatly improve the chances of early detection and thus have the potential to lower the mortality rate for oral cancer. Talk to your dentist, oral care provider or your family doctor about oral cancer prevention and early detection.
